Metaphors

The old Testament is of Jewish origin and its name is Tanak. Christians have inherited it and translated, often differing in the choice of the words and, in some cases, the possibile explicitly "hints" to Jesus. Nevertheless the basic principles remain the same.

Reading both versions we constantly meet the following concepts: "Israel", "Jerusalem", "Zion". What do they mean, how can we relate to them?

- Israel refers to the right human being aligned (or sincerely longing to align) with the divine laws.

- Jerusalem refers to the perfect community, the town made of the right humans honouring God.

- Zion refers to the heavenly city, the spiritual community waiting for us.
